Crafting, especially cooking, is pretty fun to explore and level up by finding new recipes and trying them out. It’s also a great source of exp. However, it can be costly, especially with the Leatherworking profession.
So, to minimize your cost to level, it’s best to follow a guide. There are many different sites out there that offer crafting guides. However, I recommend gw2crafts.net. It allows you to choose how you’d like to craft (Fast = More Expensive, Normal = Less Expensive), and it dynamically generates the most efficient way to craft to max level, based on the TP prices for the items you’ll need.
The other way to keep your costs down is by harvesting/salvaging things. By mining ore, chopping trees, and salvaging light/medium gear for cloth/leather, you’ll find that you have more resources in your collections tab to craft with. It’s much less painful to use your own gathered mats than to have to buy them at the time of crafting.
