Experience

To max out your experience gain, here are all the total boosts (currently available) that you can have at any one time:

  • Experience Booster: 50% base, plus an additional up to 100% with a Killstreak Bonus of 10+.
  • Celebration/Birthday Booster: 100%
  • Ram’s Reward: 10%*
  • Monkey’s Gift: 5%
  • Guild Experience and Karma Banner or Heroes Banner: 10% (there is a 5% Experience-only banner, but it does not stack with this higher bonus)
  • Guild EXP Gain: 10%
  • Experienced Infusion: 20%
  • Food: 15%
  • Utility: 10%

*Note: this 10% includes exp from ALL sources, including gathering, story rewards, etc. All other bonuses apply to experience from kills only, except for the Experience Booster, which also boosts story EXP.

There are other boosts, such as Winter’s Blessing (10%) or WvW Bonuses (0-10%), but I have not included these because they are not readily available or not under the user’s control. I have also opted not to include the Black Lion Boost (100% boost to Magic Find, 50% to Experience) for the same reason.

Acquisition:

Experience Booster: A 30-minute version can be purchase for 1 laurel. A 2-hour version is available for 100 gems, or via achievement chests. These DO NOT STACK. Trust me, I’ve tested it, don’t waste your money.

Birthday Booster: A 24-hour boost. Relatively obviously, this is granted to characters each time they have a birthday. There is no other way of obtaining this item. This does not stack with the Celebration Booster.

Celebration Booster: This has the same bonus as the Birthday Booster (and does not stack with it), but is much more easily obtainable. Its boost lasts for one and a half hours (even though the tooltip says 1 hour). It is one of the Daily Login Rewards, awarded once a month. It is also available via Black Lion Keys.

Ram’s Reward: The cheapest item that grants this is called the Lunar New Year Firework (please note: Lunar, not Lucky). Each firework offers a 5-minute boost, and they can be stacked up to 2 hours.

Monkey’s Gift: The items that grant this bonus are Lucky Draketails, Prismatic Rockets, and Lucky New Year Fireworks (note: Lucky, not Lunar!). As with the Ram’s Reward, each firework grants a 5-minute bonus, and can stack up to 2 hours.

Guild Experience and Karma Banner: These boosts last for 30 minutes, and can be obtained in several ways. A pack of 3 for 2 commendations and 10 silver is available at the Guild Officer [Guild Commendation Trader] inside the Guild HQ. They may be purchased individually for 600 favor by an officer with the correct guild privileges at Bartholomew Kangas in the Guild HQ. And they can be crafted by a level 200 Scribe for roughly 3 gold (as of June 2016). The boost from a Heroes Banner is identical, and does not stack (although either banner will refresh the appropriate boosts).

Guild XP Gain: This 24-hour boost is available from Nathan the Bartender, who is located in the Guild Hall. The guild must have the correct prerequisites unlocked, and the bonus maxes out at 10%. Please note that if your guild upgrades this boost, you will need to revisit the NPC to get the upgraded version. This boost requires Heart of Thorns.

Experienced Infusion: This infusion can be purchased for 10 laurels and put into an Ascended amulet (amulet only!) with a Utility Infusion slot (it will not go into an amulet with an Offensive or Defensive Infusion Slot!). While worn, it grants that character a permanent 20% experience boost.

Food: Most food items grant a 10% experience bonus. However, all Halloween food items grant 15% experience bonus for 45 minutes. Spicy Pumpkin Cookies are my preference, as they grant 30% Magic Find as well. Candy Corn Custard is an option for lower-leveled characters, as the level req is 10 instead of 80.

Utility: Every utility item grants an exp boost of 10% (unless they offer none at all). I recommend Sharpening Skulls for their additional 30% Magic Find, and the boost offered after rezzing an ally.

Karma

To max out your karma gain, here are all the total boosts (currently available) that you can have at any one time:

  • Guild Karma and Experience Banner/Heroes Banner: 10% (there is a 5% Karma-only banner, but it does not stack with this higher bonus)
  • Guild Karma Boost: 10%
  • Minty Breath: 10%
  • Food: 10%
  • Utility: 10%
  • Karmic Infusion: 15%

There are other boosts, such as Winter’s Blessing (10%) or WvW Bonuses (0-10%), but I have not included these because they are not readily available or not under the user’s control.

Guild Karma Boost: This 24-hour boost is available from Nathan the Bartender, who is located in the Guild Hall. The guild must have the correct prerequisites unlocked, and the bonus maxes out at 10%. Please note that if your guild upgrades this boost, you will need to revisit the NPC to get the upgraded version. This boost requires Heart of Thorns.

Minty Breath: This boost is granted by Candy Canes. Each cane grants 1 minute of the boost, but you can eat up to 30 at a time to stack 30 minutes of the boost.

Food: Foods that offer a boost to karma are the Wintersday foods: Mintberry Swirl Ice Cream, Peppermint Omnomberry Bar, and Tropical Peppermint Cake. Of these, I prefer the Omnomberry version, because of the additional Magic Find. The ice cream variant is best if you care about DPS. The boost lasts for 30 minutes.

Utility: These are also all from Wintersday 2015: Peppermint Oil, Tin of Fruitcake, Tuning Icicle. The fruitcake is the most expensive, as it is essentially a Sharpening Stone. The boost lasts for 30 minutes.

Karmic Infusion: This infusion can be purchased for 10 laurels and put into an Ascended amulet (amulet only!) with a Utility Infusion slot (it will not go into an amulet with an Offensive or Defensive Infusion Slot!). While worn, it grants that character a permanent 15% karma boost.

Magic Find

To max out your magic find, here are all the total boosts (currently available) that you can have at any one time:

  • Luck Bonus: up to 316% *
  • Item Booster: 50%
  • Celebration/Birthday Booster: 100%
  • [Animal]’s Gift: 10%
  • Guild Gold and Magic Find Banner or Heroes Banner: 15% (there is a 10% MF-only banner, but it does not stack with this higher bonus)
  • Guild Item Research: 10%
  • Magical Infusion: 20%
  • Food: 30-40%
  • Utility: 30%
  • Perseverance: up to 150% (see acquisition for details)
  • Hero of the Wastes: 50% (see acquisition for details)

*Note: Your account magic find is increased by consuming Essences of Luck, and also by reaching 500-point achievement increments. These are permanent, account-wide bonuses.

There are other boosts, such as Lunar New Year or WvW bonuses, but I have not included these because they are not readily available or not under the user’s control. I have also opted not to include the Black Lion Boost (100% boost to Magic Find, 50% to Experience) for the same reason.

Rooster’s Gift: The items that grant this bonus are Lucky Draketails, Prismatic Rockets, and Lucky New Year Fireworks (note: Lucky, not Lunar!). Each firework grants a 5-minute bonus, and can stack up to 2 hours.

Guild Gold and Magic Find Banner: These boosts last for 30 minutes, and can be obtained in several ways.

Guild Item Research: This 24-hour boost is available from Nathan the Bartender, who is located in the Guild Hall. The guild must have the correct prerequisites unlocked, and the bonus maxes out at 10%. Please note that if your guild upgrades this boost, you will need to revisit the NPC to get the upgraded version. This boost requires Heart of Thorns.

Magical Infusion: This infusion can be purchased for 20 laurels and put into an Ascended amulet (amulet only!) with a Utility Infusion slot (it will not go into an amulet with an Offensive or Defensive Infusion Slot!). While worn, it grants that character a permanent 20% Magic Find boost.

Food: The highest Magic Find bonus available on a food item is the Chocolate Omnomberry Cream, at 40%. However, that bonus is applied when the character has boons on them. Given the abundant nature of boons (especially for classes like engineers and revenants), this is a relatively easy prerequisite. However, if you prefer a lower-maintenance food, I recommend Peppermint Omnomberry Bars. They’re cheap, and offer a bonus to Gold Find and Karma as well.

Utility: All three Halloween utility items (Sharpening Skulls, Pumpkin Oil, and Crystallized Nougat) offer a 30% MF boost. Of these, I prefer the Sharpening Skulls for their stat bonus after rezzing someone.

Perseverance: This is a bit of a strange beast. It’s obtained in the Silverwastes, by participating in events. Each stack gives a 30% MF boost, for a total of 150% at 5 stacks. However, this bonus is only applied to your character WHILE you are opening a Lost Bandit Chest. It also disappears as soon as you leave the Silverwastes.

Hero of the Wastes: This bonus is only available in the Silverwastes, as well. It is awarded when the player successfully completes the Vinewrath event.
